The Denim Jacket: A Southerner's BFF

With the exception of the impending southeastern ice/snowstorm that's supposedly headed our way this evening, we've had a relatively mild winter so far. Granted, it's technically only been a few weeks, but since we've all had sweaters out for quite some time, I feel like it's been at least a month of winter if not more.

Atlanta winters tend to be a lot warmer than most places, so I'm always thinking a little bit differently about my wardrobe. Sleeveless tops and flats get paired with felt hats and Kut from the Kloth denim jackets (c/o). I will say, the good news with outfits like these is I can dress easily for the day time and switch to date night without giving much thought to it other than a swipe of lipstick and adding gold hoops. Plus, a denim jacket is a southerner's bff. Lightweight and classic: the perfect staple.

These black jeans have been a staple for me (super affordable...i.e. cheap!) and while some people frown on the Texas tuxedo, when you mix denim colors, it's all good. I might not be recreating this outfit this weekend due to snow, but it may or may not slip into my suitcase for next weekend's girls trip to Rosemary Beach! Light, breezy layers scream winter seaside spots, don't you think?

P.S. No, this isn't some European town, but rather adorable historic Roswell. Aren't the pictures with the stone wall and blue door like Greece?!

Mirrored Aviators Make a Return

Fashion is a funny thing. It's true that styles & trends work run in circles, and the sunglasses in this post are definitely proof of that. I got these sunglasses as a Christmas gift nearly six years ago. I got one good year out of them before I decided I liked my Wayfarers and oversized sunnies much more than my Top Gun-chic frames. Fast forward to today, and mirrored sunglasses are making a major return. Lucky for me, I still had mine tucked away for a when that shades' circle came right on back.

While I do love that my sunnies are the major topic of conversation today, can we get a load of this laser cut peplum top? It's super well-made and an extremely flattering shape. I paired it with a good set of boyfriend jeans, some studded heels, and my stackable Kendra Scott rings that I just can't get enough of. Side note: boyfriend jeans have been on my must-have list for quite some time, and when I finally scored these, I couldn't be happier. They have a decent rise, they don't make me look enormous, and they were well priced. Done and done.

I love this outfit, and there's a good chance that if we happen to run into each other out and about in Atlanta (like at my favorite new haunt, Bartaco), I'll be rocking this very look. Mirrored aviators and all.

Cheers to the weekend, friends!

eShakti gifted me the top seen here for this post, however I truly love it & wanted to share it with you all! Be sure to follow eShakti on Facebook, Twitter, & of course, Pinterest.

Friday's Fancies: Summer Soiree

One of the perks of my summer job is having the opportunity to attend networking events, and I am thrilled to be heading to an event tonight with Emily Giffin at the W Buckhead. Unfortunately, this event was sort of last minute, so I didn't have time to plan a stellar outfit. I'll be reaching into the depths of my closet instead, but if I had had the time to go shopping, you can bet I would have found an outfit similar to this one. Chic, sophisticated, and summery. What more do you need?

Friday's Fancies: Lake Weekend

Hello & happy Friday! It has been a really great week despite a few not so great days. I had a teeny-tiny, totally my fault, fender-bender which resulted in my needing a new car. It has been a little stressful, but kind of fun all at the same time. Hoping to get a new set of wheels this weekend to be all set for the rest of the summer & beyond! In the meantime, we're headed to a friend's lake house this weekend for a little R & R, sunshine, and water sports. It's sure to be a great time! I'll be wearing a new bathing suit, a big hat, and tons of sunscreen.

In honor of our little weekend away, I've pulled together what I think is a fabulous lake look, don't you agree?

I hope you all have a marvelous weekend!

Summertime Chic Francophile

Every now and then, it seems like my favorite blogs, and my favorite instagram accounts are inundated with people gallivanting in Europe. While I would love to be one of them, I don't mind settling for Midnight in Paris on my couch with my own chien. Since I can't be off to Europe, I thought I'd pull together a French inspired look fit for a summer date night or dancing with the girls. What do you think? Does it have that je ne sais quoi?!

I don't know about you, but je t'aimes, non? Enjoy the weekend!

Friday's Fancies: Take the Plunge

With summer on the horizon, I've got only one thing on my mind: a new bathing suit. Ironically, I absolutely despise purchasing bathing suits, but I adore sifting through pages and pages of online browsing. There are so many trends to try this season. Whether it's scalloped edges, flutter tops, or high waisted bikini bottoms, I am ready to try them all!

I've pulled together a few different options that I think are just, well, swimmingly spectactular.  What summer suit trend are you excited to try?

On my agenda for this weekend is a visit with my friends Fig & Flower for their grand opening event. Over the past week, I have fallen in love with some of their products (more on that soon!), and I have been plotting what else I will buy. Stay tuned for all of the action, plus some pretty amazing beauty products, and if you're in Atlanta, stop by!

Friday's Fancies: Summer Nights

Okay, I know it's not quite summer...not just yet, but I couldn't resist pulling together a look based on this maxi. It's absolutely gorgeous, and I think it would look fabulous on so many different body types. Adding some statement jewelry elevates the look while a pair of casual sandals keeps it casual. It's a bit of the perfect dichotomy - casual chic.

Friday's Fancies: Cinco de Mayo

Hola PPD readers, and happy Friday! With Cinco de Mayo on Monday, I will definitely be spending the weekend indulging on a tour of our favorite Mexican joints. We actually got a head start last night at a neighborhood favorite, Jalisco's. If you're ever in the Peachtree Battle area, I highly recommend it!

In honor of this simply fantastic holiday, I thought I'd whip up a style with a little fiesta flare.

How about you? Will you be indulging in a little Cinco de Mayo fun this weekend? Whether you do or don't, I hope it is absolutely splendid!

Friday's Fancies: Kentucky Derby

I can say, without an ounce of doubt, that the two best sporting events I ever attended were the Masters & the Kentucky Derby. Granted, when I went to the derby, we had tickets in the infield which meant wall to wall people and lots of sweat...oh, and no fancy hats. And when I saw all of the people sitting in the shaded grandstands sipping their mint juleps and relishing in a good round of betting, I knew that I was destined for grand stand life.

Unfortunately, I have yet to make it back to Churchill Downs, but when I do, I know I'll be donning the cutest dress with the prettiest shoes and the widest brimmed hat I can find!

Three cheers for the weekend, y'all! Enjoy it!

Friday's Fancies: Easter Style

In my family, we always got a new outfit for Easter Sunday. Sometimes it came in our Easter baskets, and sometimes we went shopping weeks in advance. It always made heading to Easter mass even more exciting for us kids. I didn't get a new outfit this year, but if I had, it might have looked a little something like the one below. Spring colors, beautiful baubles, and a fabulous patterned bag.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family & loved ones!

Friday's Fancies: Masters Style

In culmination of Masters week here on the blog (totally unintentional yet completely inspirational), I have a cute little outfit that a golf enthusiast could easily wear to this weekend's events. Make sure you have a comfy pair of shoes, a durable bag, and of course, a hat to finish off the look.

We're enjoying a visit from my brother-in-law & future sister-in-law this weekend, so we'll be out and about enjoying the Atlanta sights. Check in next week for some pretty exciting features & announcements! Cheers to the weekend, y'all!

Friday's Fancies: Charleston Style

Today months of preparation and planning take shape, and I'm off to Charleston for my BFF's bachelorette party. We're staying on Folly Beach, indulging in a lot of good food, and taking in the sights of one of the South's greatest city's. Today's look is a little something I tossed together inspired by Charleston's famous Rainbow Row.

The pastel homes sit on the waterfront and are an iconic Charleston image. While it's probably not quite time to bust out shorts, a breezy look like this would be right at home in South Carolina.

I hope you all have a marvelous weekend, and to my fellow teachers, enjoy spring break!

Friday's Fancies: Easy Weekend Style

I have always wanted to be one of those Parisian chic women who wears hats casually on the weekends. You know, like it's a normal part of her accessories routine. Don't get me wrong, I adore a good beach hat, but I haven't quite worked up the stylish courage to sport one while running errands around Atlanta. But oh, how I wish I could because I'd definitely rock the one featured here. And get a load of that maxi. Target DEFINITELY does it again.

TARGET maxi / SOLE SOCIETY bettie heels / MELISSA ODABASH by piperlime hat / C.WONDER cork clutch / BAUBLE BAR beaded tassel necklace

This weekend I am visiting my friends at Flawless Finish to finally get my hair cut. Thank goodness!!! And, I am making some finishing touches on bachelorette planning for my BFF. Whoop!

Have a great one!

Friday's Fancies: Spring has Blossomed

With signs of spring and the official start of the new season yesterday, I am looking forward to bright, punchy hues taking my closet by storm. And sometimes, all it takes is one beautiful necklace to get my head in the jewelry clouds. Loren Hope's baubles have taken up permanent residency on my wish-list. While I have yet to make any of them my own, I am eying many of her beauties from her most recent collection. Don't they just scream spring?!

With the nice weather headed our way, we are headed to the zoo tomorrow for educator appreciation day (aka. I get in for free, so why not?!), and we will definitely be making a stop at 39 x 43 pop-up to visit WOM & Society Social...and tons of other local Atlanta favs. It's sure to be a great weekend. Enjoy yours, y'all!

Friday's Fancies: Working for the Weekend

Whew! Friday is finally here! I was most definitely working for the weekend this week. I am headed to a friend's lakehouse with the best girl friends anyone could ask for. We are all too excited to indulge in a little bubbly and an amazing cheese plate, watch a Wes Anderson movie or two, and basically allow the hours to pass slowly by. It's been quite the work week, and I've been counting down. If I wasn't spending the weekend with my gals, I'd definitely want to head to date night for dinner for two. I think this look is just effortless enough, and I love how the earrings so closely mirror the pattern on the Judith March top.

This look would be another perfect one St. Patrick's Day, don't you think? Don't forget to plan to wear green on Monday! Luck of the Irish to you, and enjoy your weekend, friends!

Friday's Fancies: St. Patrick's Day in 4 Steps

When March rolls around, I usually think of three things: warmer temperatures, the color green, and St. Patrick's Day, of course! I have to admit, it's not just St. Patrick's Day that brings shades of emerald, lime, and fern to the forefront of my mind. It's the colors of spring that surround me: the grass is turning green again and the leaves are coming back to the branches. Plus, let's not forget the fashion! Green is one of my favorite colors to shop for and wear. It's lush, luxe, and just plain pretty. Stores are filled with green these days, and I for one am loving it.

Recently I've been on the hunt for a good pair of boyfriend jeans. Brands like Simons and GAP have some really affordable options that I think would complete this 4-step look. Add a pair of pumps, a well-fitting top, and some fancy accessories, and I'd be ready to welcome the leprechauns and green beer. Gear up for St. Patrick's Day a little early with these great pieces for Friday's Fancies.

This weekend, I'm excited to have a few of our friends joining us from Auburn and Columbus to celebrate Hunter's birthday. We're headed to Gunshow tonight and are all so excited! Cheers to the weekend!

P.S. A very happy birthday TODAY to my sweet friend, Lauren who is an avid PPD reader and an incredible friend. xo!

Friday's Fancies: Weekend Wear

Since we're still transitioning around here, I am all about casual weekend looks that I can toss a jacket over. To me, this darling Judith March top fits the bill. Add a pair of flats & an over-sized bag, and you're ready for whatever errands the weekend has in store.

I'm looking forward to another low-key weekend around Atlanta. I'll be prepping for a dear friend's Oscar-themed birthday party, and I think I'll be making one of these. What's better for an award-show themed party than a popcorn appetizer?

Friday's Fancies: Transitional

You want to hear something absolutely crazy? This time last week, I was sitting at home after 2 days of an ice/snow storm. Yesterday it was 75 degrees outside. No lie. And while some people might complain about the lack of seasons south of the mason-dixon line, I personally love it. I'm sure all of you northerners and mid-westerners sure would appreciate a break from those freezing temperatures to the tune of 70+ degrees, no? It's part of what makes living in the south so special.

Now, I will say that the hard part is deciphering exactly how to dress in these months. An easy (albeit adorable) popover, some skinny jeans, and a pair of flats, much like the outfit I have for you today, works well. Darling accessories complete the casual Friday look. Mais oui!!!

This weekend is pretty low key for us which means plenty of time for catching up on some of my favorite blogs and magazines. Next week to PPD comes another installment of Better Blogging and the latest edition of Perfectly Paired....the bibliophile version! Stay tuned and enjoy your weekend!

Friday's Fancies: A Perfect Match

Matchbooks have been making appearances on coffee tables, bookshelves, desktops, and consoles for quite sometime. They're versatile, punchy, and useful accessories that can add a bit of charm to an otherwise mundane surface. Recently, I can't help but notice that matchbooks and clothes seem to have a lot in common. In honor of Valentine's Day, treat yourself this weekend to the perfect match.

Friday's Fancies: My Atlanta Apparel Mart Experience

Last Thursday, I had the chance of a blogger-lifetime to attend Atlanta Apparel Mart to pay a visit the Judith March & Missy Robertson booths and take some behind-the-scenes pictures of the spring collections. It. was. incredible!

Not only did I get to see the market gals in action, but I got snap a few pictures of all of the new merchandise. After spending about an hour in the booths, I headed to a press conference with Stephanie Carter, Missy Robertson, & Christy Carlisle Smith. The Missy Robertson for Southern Fashion House line is truly phenomenal and hearing the story was a great way to get to know the process of how the collection came to be more intimately. I even brushed aside the butterflies and asked a few questions of the leading ladies. They were too sweet to pose for a picture with me after the press conference!

While there, I met up with the lovely girls of Village Boutique in Auburn and Cotton & Twine in Dalton. They were all so kind to give me a few "mart tips," and we had a blast chatting it up about the fashion surrounding us. And then...there was a fashion show. And I don't think I stopped smiling for the entire thing.

Colors, bell-sleeves, and embroidery strutted down the catwalk while I tapped my camera as fast as it would go. I was so in my element and loved every minute of being there. I left with a hug (!) from Stephanie and a day of awesome memories.

Be on the look-out at your local Judith March retailers for all of the new SFH goodies coming your way!
