Atlanta Roadtrip: Dahlonega Vineyards

Since graduating college, my girlfriends and I take an annual trip to North Georgia for wine tasting. When you think of the south, you definitely usually don't think of wine, but actually, our mountain regions are getting more and more credit for their grapes and wine making. We hire a driver and a passenger bus that takes us to vineyards of our choice. The views are breathtaking, the wine is plentiful, and the company simply can't be beat.

This time of year is the perfect time to head to the vineyards, so if you're local or planning a trip to Atlanta between now and November, definitely consider adding this easy day trip to your itinerary. Dahlonega is only a short 65 miles from Atlanta, so in just about an hour, you can be transported from city life to mountain ranges and delicious wine!

This trip, we happened to visit my top three favorite vineyards:

1. Wolf Mountain: Known for their views and beautiful tasting room, Wolf Mountain was the first Georgia vineyard I ever visited. Their patio and grounds are expansive and make for beautiful pictures. If it's your first visit, plan to take a tour and even dine on site, too.

Wine not to be missed: Sparkling Syrah Brut

2. Three Sisters: Hands down my favorite vineyard, Three Sisters has the most fun tasting you can get. Choose the 5 wine flight for $15 or the 4 wine flight for $10, and Three Sisters will walk you through a tasting catered to your taste. Be sure to let them know you want to taste the wines with the "treats" - they pair one of their wines with Cheetos and one of them with dark chocolate.

Wine not to be missed: Cabernet-Franc

3. Frogtown Cellars: Frogtown's laid back atmosphere allows for countless hours spent with friends on their many porches and patios. Plus, it's about a 3 minute drive from Three Sisters, so it's perfect for hitting two vineyards in one day.

Wine not to be missed: 404 (it's not on their menu...secrets are fun!)

Thanks to my friends for capturing these images. I had to reset my phone shortly after our trip and lost all of my photos.
