Hi! I’m Kelsey, and I blog at The Peacock Roost. I am so excited that Nicole is allowing me to be her guest blogger today & show you more about my town. I live in Owensboro with my husband, Jared. I moved away for college and graduate school but upon receiving an appealing job offer, I returned in 2011 and as they say, the rest is history! Owensboro is a great place to live for people of all ages and I’m excited to share a few of my favorite local attractions with you today!
I love eating local! Chain restaurants are good but when I really want to eat well in Owensboro, I want to go to one of these local favorites!
Colby’s has been in downtown Owensboro as long as I can remember and is a staple for birthdays, family dinners, graduations, etc. They have a great variety of American food and it’s always delicious! I love the atmosphere there. Exposed brick walls, very open, etc.
This picture might be enough said :) I absolutely love Bee Bop's! They have the best cheeseburgers & homemade chips. Plus they just started serving breakfast & I can't wait to try it!
If a person has heard of a place to eat in Owensboro, it is most likely Moonlite BBQ! Moonlite started as a small family restaurant and has continued to expand. They have a huge restaurant and also offer catering services. This is a favorite for when we’re feeling “buffet-hungry” and is super popular for visitors to our town!
Gene’s Health Foods
I love Gene’s for their healthy products but what really draws me there over and over is their famous tuna fish sandwich! It is seriously the best tuna fish I have ever had! I can’t even make my own anymore because I can’t make it measure up :)
I love our recently renovated riverfront & downtown area for numerous reasons! For starters, my internship during college for two summers included a lot of work on this project and it’s so fulfilling seeing it come to life and knowing I had the wonderful opportunity to be involved in a small way. Aside from that, our riverfront is just beautiful! It’s the perfect place for lunch, to go for a walk in the evenings or even for engagement photos! There is a huge playground for kids, a splash area, fountains, swings by the river and our war memorial just to name a few things on the river!
One of the big things Owensboro is known for is Bluegrass music! Our International Bluegrass Museum is visited frequently by people from around the world and they are currently fundraising to build a new museum that is truly going to be state of the art. The Museum puts on the ROMP Music Fest every summer that draws in so many people!
I love Orchards! I think they are so pretty and such a unique place to spend some time. Reid’s Orchard has been a staple since I was a young girl. I loved going there with my grandparents when I was little to pick apples, I hardly ever miss the Apple Fest in the fall and we even used it as a location for our engagement photos. They have such great products & I love just spending time there any time of the year!
Shopping at Bella Ragazza can be dangerous for me because I want EVERYTHING in the store! They have a lot of office appropriate clothing which is great for me but they also have great casual items for nights & weekends. One of my favorite parts of the store is the accessories section! Their jewelry and purses are very reasonable and I always find pieces I love. The tunic above came from there and I wear it all the time in the Fall!
Blossoms carries so many of my favorite brands! Kendra Scott, Lauren James, and Ashley Brooke Designs just to name a few! They have a contemporary collection for women and just recently expanded to carrying items for teens as well.
Bakers Rack is known for being the wedding & baby gift go-to store! They’re also known for their brown with white polka dots wrapping paper & car! I love buying gifts at Bakers Rack because you can have them wrapped or delivered which just makes life easier. Also, I always know that I’m giving a high quality gift!
I love Studio Slant! They carry the most unique handmade gifts, art, and jewelry. From amazing candles, to art prints and handmade cards, they have great quality gifts & I know the recipient will love them. I love their selection for men as well! My favorite thing about Studio Slant is the Canvas & Cocktails classes that they offer! It’s so fun to get together with a group of friends and have a few cocktails while learning to paint. So much fun!
For being a small town in Western Kentucky, Owensboro has a lot to offer! These are just a few of my favorite things in my town and I'm so glad Nicole gave me the opportunity to share a few of those with you! If you live in the area, definitely come check out Owensboro!
