How to Transition Your Favorite Maxi Dress

Do you feel it? Spring is finally here! Of course spring rolled into Atlanta earlier this week in the dreariest way possible, but nevertheless, it's here. I know that we're all excited to see what this new season holds: whether that's spring cleaning, longer hours in the day, or pulling out some of last year's closet staples. For me, it's repurposing some of the items that I wore last spring and summer in a new way, and that means transitioning my favorite maxi dress.

A few weeks ago, I met up with Shelby, a fabulous Wisconsin wedding and lifestyle photographer for a photoshoot at the new Buckhead Atlanta shopping district. Shelby and I started planning our meet-up months ago, and when it finally arrived, we were met with cold, rainy, winter weather (hello frizzy hair!). But we ordered a few cups of coffee, put on a hat, and made the best of it!

I decided to pull out a few of my closet staples for the shoot. This maxi dress was on constant rotation last summer because it is so versatile. I'll be the first to admit that black isn't a spring color, but add a punchy cardigan, and you've got yourself a bright brunch-worthy outfit. Because it was still more than a little cold, I added an affordable (read: cheap!) moto jacket to keep my arms warm and provide some texture, but I'll definitely be wearing this on cool spring nights. An easy swap for my fall felt hat would be a cute fedora (like this one) or no hat at all!

Remember to shop your own closet for events and new seasons. No use going out and buying the latest trend; just use what you have!

What are you most excited to pull back out of your closet this season?

  1. I keep saying I am going to get a maxi dress - hasn't happened yet, but maybe this is the year. I would have never thought of a black one - but love the idea of throwing a colorful cardigan over it.

  2. You look just lovely all decked out in black :) I see they also have that maxi in blue - I might just have to pick that up for summer!
