Mini King Cakes

Little known fact: New Orleans isn't actually home to the first Mardi Gras. I know, I know, I'm shattering all of your beliefs in just one sentence. But, actually, Mardi Gras originated in Mobile, Alabama. Mobile has a lovely Mardi Gras celebration. It's just as grand as anything in New Orleans, but is a lot tamer. I grew up going to Mardi Gras in Mobile and attended college in Mobile (along with Luisa), so to me, Mobile is Mardi Gras.

Every year I tell myself that I'm going to make it back to Mobile for a few parades or balls, but every year it just doesn't happen because of this thing or the other. So this year, I brought Mardi Gras to my house with these mini King Cakes. A King Cake is a Mardi Gras tradition. Essentially a coffee cake with icing and sprinkles, King Cakes are the epitome of a Mardi Gras dessert. Instead of buying one at the store (which is inevitably dry and gross), whip up a batch of these minis...with your favorite cinnamon rolls!

You will need:
- 1 tube of cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing
- purple, gold, and green sugar sprinkles
- cookie sheet

To prepare:
Unroll your cinnamon rolls from the tube. Then, taking each individual roll at a time, unwrap it from its spiral creating a cinnamon stick of sorts. Twist the stick and create a wreath shape with it. Continue with the remaining rolls.

Place on a baking sheet and bake for the directed time (mine took 10 minutes).

Remove from the oven and immediate ice. Add thick sections of purple, gold, and green sprinkles on each mini cake (3 distinct sections per cake). Voila!

Laissez les bons temps rouler! And Happy Mardi Gras!
