Introducing York Design Company & a Giveaway

This is a partnership a long time in the making, and I am ecstatic to finally introduce you to Laura from York Design Company! Laura designs and creates hand-made needlepoint cuffs that make my little Southern heart go pitter-patter. Her talent is as big as her heart, and I can honestly say that Laura has quickly become one of my favorite small business owners and bloggers out there.

I wanted to give you a little bit more about Laura and her business beyond a simple introduction, so I am including her full interview for your reading pleasure. I know that you'll enjoy her and her whimsical and stylish cuffs as much as I do.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself. Why did you decide to start York Design Company?
I love anything and everything DIY, so the idea really stemmed from crafting home-made presents. I made a few needlepoint cuffs for friends and family, and soon the requests were taking up a lot of my time to the point where it was no longer just a hobby - I turned it into a business and have been working hard ever since!

2. What is your vision for your product? Do you ever want a brick and mortar shop?
A brick-and-mortar shop would be fabulous someday - I certainly hope to be there in the next few years! The immediate vision is to keep our customers happy, design unique pieces, and add to our repertoire of products so we can expand the line.

3. What is the first thing you want people to think of when they see YDC?
Happiness. York Design Company is more than just needlepoint; it's a lifestyle. The needlepoint represents color and fun. It's a craft that evokes past memories and YDC brings those memories to life in a contemporary way. I love to wear my needlepoint cuffs stacked on dinner dates, vacations, and special day trips. The cuffs are always worn to places where I know I can wear a whimsical outfit.

4. Who/what would be your ultimate collaboration?
I dream to have products with a Lilly Pulitzer print in YDC needlepoint - that would be the ultimate collaboration.

5. What is one accessory every lady should have?
Pearl studs - you can wear them day to night, workout clothes to weddings.

6. What is your favorite southern tradition?
Alabama football and sweet tea!

7. What was the first time you ever thought "Wow, I did it!"?
I think I feel a little bit of that every day. Whether it's getting code to work on my web site or coming up with a new design I love, I have moments of triumph each day because I am constantly doing my best to put good work into my business. As far as feeling like "Wow, I did it!" in terms of creating a successful brand, I'm still working on it!

8. How do you develop your designs? What inspires you?
Life inspires me. Sometimes it's a song, an event, a fabric swatch, a lady's skirt in church, a spontaneous trip, a wedding...I'm inspired by colors and patterns all around me, and I'm forever keeping my eye out for interesting combinations. I think all designers have a little of that in them.

9. Pecan or key lime pie?
Pecan, hands down.

10. What was the last book you read?
The last book I read was "The Personal MBA" by Josh Kaufman, but I'm currently in the middle of "The Power Trip" by Jackie Collins - it's a great beach read.

Isn't she a doll?! And, Laura has also offered to give away one of her cuffs to you! Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter. Good luck!
