Friday Foodie: Farmer's Markets

Summer produce is at its peak. Lately, I've been loving the juicy tomatoes and deep red cherries from my local grocery store. Since those have been so good, I can only imagine how fabulous the fruits & veggies must be at the farmer's markets around the city. Check out these local markets for the best selection:

Brookhaven: For those who enjoy the quiet neighborhoods of Brookhaven, stop by the parking lot behind Haven and Valenza from 9-1 on Saturdays for local goodies.

Buckhead: Even though it's right down the road, I've yet to check out the Peachtree Road Farmer's Market. However, it has gotten rave reviews from several important sources (including John Kessler). One Saturday, I'm going to walk there, and maybe pick up some H&F bread!

Virginia Highlands/O4W: You guys will have to venture a little outside of your neighborhood streets, but the Sweet Auburn Curb Market is totally worth it. Check this one out when the old faithful, Dekalb Farmer's Market, is too crowded for your tastes. You'll find lots of similar things including fresh meat! While you're there, pick up a milkshake from the original Grindhouse Killer Burgers.

In Town: Piedmont Park Green Market is a great excuse to get out to our awesome park a little more. Wind your way through the park while shopping for local greens and artisan cheeses. I've even seen art vendors here before!

East Atlanta Village: I just found out about the East Atlanta Village Market in the parking lot of Village Hardware. You can pick up local grass fed beef, and even a treat for your pup from Taj Mahound, a doggie bakery!

I encourage you to take a break from the craziness of the Dekalb Farmer's Market and explore other local markets around Atlanta...if for nothing else than a good stroll through a new 'hood!
